October Empties 2014

If you’re new to empties, this is where I show you stuff we’ve used up, and give a quick review. Assume if you’ve seen fresh fruits and vegetables in hauls. We finished them. Meats as well.

Bath and Body:

This American Eagle cologne is one of my favorite mens smells. Its light and fresh for a cologne. Probably has a citrus base, but still woodsy.
This Shampoo isn’t really all that natural, but a nice option if it’s the only thing you can get.
The dove is what we have used for years because its nice for sensitive skin, but we recently switched to a goat’s milk soap. I think it’s a huge difference.
I’m still on the fence about this mouth wash. I repurchased a new one, but I think I’ll probably switch after this one is over.

Dog Stuff:

This is my little dogs food. I switched for a few weeks, a month ago to a different one. Mistake, Smead had a mild allergic reaction and his skin scabbed up. Poor thing.
Since we got a new dog and it took us a week or two to get her into the vet. We had to get some kind of flea prevention, the strays in our area keep us well supplied.

Snacks:
Fotor_141391901591374
Cameron grabbed these chips the other day for some salsa. I only had a few, but they were good.
These different organic chocolates are both a staple in our house. A square is normally our dessert, or Cam dips them in his coffee.

Food:
Fotor_141391916634667
The Annie’s mac and cheese are OK, not great, not bad. I love these pitas, we have the small ones now.
These Wild Oats soups are great.
I can’t remember where we got these salmon, but they are good.
The z-bars in the back were s’mores. They were nice, good flavor. Would repurchase.
I’ve fallen in love with the wild oats soups, not watered down and great seasoning.

Drink:
Fotor_141391922110067
This is the last of the Tart Cherry and Apple for at least for a few weeks.
We go through one almond milk and soy/almond creamer a week.
We also go through a coffee and herbal coffee every two weeks. I blend the two together.
And of course my Pure Protein breakfast drinks.

September Empties

We didn’t use a whole lot up last month. Most of the food we eat is fresh. And since I like to have 5 of anything open it takes a while to go through one.
But since I’m starting a purge I’ll be finishing up more stuff in the following months. Hopefully.

Dog Empties August

My two dogs liked these. There aren’t many treats they don’t like. But some times it happens. So these passed.

We try to be cruelty free when possible. Neither of us are vegan, but unnecessary pain or suffering bothers me. And I now know Arm and Hammer and Aveeno both test on animals. The shave cream we’ve had for a looong time and will not repurchase, this one wasn’t even empty. I feel bad about this, but I will repurchase the deodorant. It’s the only naturalish deodorant that Cam will wear and actually work. He’s not a cruelty free people, so it’s a fight for another time.
I liked the Kiss my face, it works pretty good. I have an extra one. If I buy this brand again, I’ll get a scented one.
We have used the ECOS laundry detergent for years. I’ve probably used it for 7/8 years. And Cam has used it since we met 5 years ago. Love it, we get the huge size at Sam’s and stock up when it’s on sale.
This Ecover dishwasher detergent was okay. It’s no better or worse than any commercial brand. Our 6 month old high-end dishwasher kind of sucks, so I’ll probably never know it any of them are good. I’ll keep trying though. So I’d repurchase. But not right away.

I drink one of those Pure Protein drinks every morning. (with a cup of coffee to make an iced coffee) I didn’t save all of them. I love them. Not natural, but really not bad ingredients either. And they only have a few net carbs each.
I normally eat one of the Quest Bars for lunch or snack or an on the go meal. They only have a few carbs and not to bad on calories. I didn’t eat all of these in one month, but i keep 4 flavors on hand. These happened to run out last month, I have two more about to run out as I type. Making a vitacost order this friday.
If you like coffee, but try not to drink it. YOU NEED the herbal coffee Teeccino. Deep smooth roasted flavor, none of the acidity. I mix this with regular coffee. So half and half. They have different flavors too.
Anyone know where I can get organic canned corn? I haven’t seen any at our local stores. Maybe there are some frozen bags I can keep. I’ll look for those.

Pawbox July. First Thoughts and review.

This box subscription have been around for hmmm maybe a year or so. I was weighting which brand to go with. This one is the cheapest at 10.00 with 5 items, the next one is Pawella mini for 18.00 I think. I figured I’d give it a try. I Spend at least 7.00 on treats every month anyway. If I get a bag of treats and a few extras, will be worth it. Right?
Well I decided on the 3 month time frame to test it out. So even if it’s not worth it, I’m only out 30.00 and I’ll have at least something we like. Right?
First impression : Cute box, has the pawbox logo and little paw prints all over it. Super cute tissue paper, I will be reusing that. Has a card with theme and product info.

Okay now for the inside stuff.
In this one you get a large sample size of treats. Probably half bag size. It was 2oz. Named ” The dog ate my homework”, the treats had the words homework on them. Cute idea.
That was the highlight of the box unfortunately. Next was one of those rubbery plastic toys. The cheap hollow kind that only squeak till they bite it.
Then there was this rubber ring. Kind of odd. Just a round ring of rubber. Smelt bad.
I have to say, they might be good for some dogs. But I’ve never given mine anything but rope and cloth toys. So they don’t know what to do with them, and haven’t touched them. But that’s just my dogs.
The last two items were the filler I guess. A light up dog tag, and a training clicker.
Over all, an okay box. Just not really for my dogs. They have two more months to convince me to repurchase. If not, I’ll try one of the others.

Life lesson learned!

So I’m one of those people that always want to pick up strays. I don’t, but I want too. I’ve picked up a few in my day, get em’ healthy and find them a home. My dream “job” would be to open a pet rescue. But I digress.
This past Sunday evening we were driving home and we saw a small Chihuahua on the side of the road. I was driving so I pulled over. 🙂 We had Gavin with us, so I was trying to get him to get it. He was to scared. (my sister might have a Chihuahua sweetie, clears throat).
Picked it up and right away, noticed it was super old and skinny. Gavin fall in love with her right away. She started sleeping with him and he was responsible for her.
I went through all the steps, check for microchip, none. Let a couple vets know I found her. Let our local pet rescue know. And made some flyers. The evening I was going to put the flyers up, the owner also posted on the pet rescue site. The dog we were calling Foxy was actually named Zoe.
For four days we had a little girl doggy in our home, and Gavin was hoping to keep her. There are some things that are the same if you’re 11 or 31. You know you should do the right thing, but sometimes you really don’t want to. But in the end, the right thing is always better.
Gavin had one of those moments today. He was hoping so bad that we would be able to keep her. Was a bit sad when we went to drop her off, but he said. ” It made me feel really good, to see how happy she was to see her again.” There were tears from the mom. But the other lesson he learned was its rewarding to do the right thing. Figuratively and literally, she had bought us a card and it had a gift card in it. That was the highlight of his day, and helped soften some of the sadness. lol
